Celebrating La Francophonie In Saskatchewan

Mar 15, 2011

Today Provincial Secretary Donna Harpauer proclaimed March 4-20 as Les Rendez-vous de la Francophonie 2011 in Saskatchewan. During these two weeks Saskatchewan Francophones and French speakers will join millions of others from all over the country to celebrate Canada's francophone culture and heritage. "Since before Saskatchewan was a province, Francophone culture was a part of us," Harpauer said. "It is a pillar of our collective history, and is woven into the very fabric that has become Saskatchewan's identity. I would encourage everyone, no matter their heritage, to take part in this cultural celebration." With the belief that greater interaction leads to greater understanding, all Saskatchewan residents are invited to attend the numerous activities taking place across the province. Festivities are held annually in March throughout Canada to promote French language and Francophone culture and to coincide with the International Day of La Francophonie on March 20.
