13th Annual Rendez-vous de la Francophonie

13th Annual Rendez-vous de la Francophonie

Mar 14, 2011

Each year since 1970, French-speaking people around the world have celebrated March 20 as International day of la Francophonie as a way to promote the French language with all of its diversity. In Canada, we have recently expanded the festivities into a two-week event called Les Rendezvous de la francophonie. This year, between March 4 and March 20, the French language and culture is being celebrated by all francophone communities from sea to shining sea. Les Rendez-vous de la Francophonie is an interesting approach to making the most of this celebration. It is noteworthy that every province in Canada has some French heritage woven into its social fabric. Over 9.5 million people in Canada currently have a connection to the French language and consider themselves to be part of the community. Wherever you look, it's clear that the French language remains a relevant and vibrant cornerstone of Canadian identity and culture. Les Rendez-vous de la Francophonie is an initiative of the "Canadian Foundation for Cross-Cultural Dialogue", whose mission is to promote cultural exchange and ongoing relationships between Francophone and Acadian communities and all other segments of Canadian society. During this twoweek period, the public will discover everything from community gatherings to classroom activities, performing arts through multicultural celebrations and almost everything in between -all great ways to express the French language.
